(AP) – A new issue on the history of the uniform worn by the Coast Guard will feature a story by a Coast Guard captain.

The Coast Guard says in a news release the story “is a welcome addition to the growing body of material documenting the Coast Guards history, and the contributions that our brave men and women make in the defense of our country.”

The story is about the uniforms worn by Coast Guard members during World War II.

The Coast Guard started wearing them in the early 1940s as a way to make them look more like Coast Guardsmen than ordinary uniforms.
